Meet Melissa Durrant

I’m running for the Idaho House because District 23A deserves experienced, thoughtful leadership grounded in real life and shared values.

I’ve had the honor of serving our district in the Legislature, and since leaving office I’ve continued serving our community- earning my master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and working as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Kuna School District. Every day, I see how state decisions affect classrooms, special education services, families, and teachers. Education isn’t theoretical to me—it’s personal and practical.

My Husband’s family has been engaged in Idaho agriculture since 1947. Farming, ranching, and small family businesses taught me responsibility, stewardship, and the importance of practical solutions. Those lessons guide how I approach policy: respect for hard work, local decision-making, and the long-term health of our land and water.

Water is one of our district’s most critical issues. With the Snake River running through District 23A and new challenges like the recent quagga mussel infestation, we must protect water for families, agriculture, and responsible growth—now and for generations to come. That requires steady leadership, local insight, and early action.

Faith and service shape who I am. Our family centers our lives on the teachings of Jesus—love of neighbor, honesty, accountability, and service. I’ve served in our church as a teacher and leader, and I believe public service should reflect those same principles.

I also bring a record of service beyond the Legislature: two years as Idaho Young Farmers & Ranchers State Chair, two years on the national American Farm Bureau Federation YFR Committee, support for FFA, service on school committees, and years coaching youth soccer with Kuna PAL. These experiences keep me connected to families, students, and the people who make our community strong.

I’m running because District 23A needs a representative who listens, shows up, and understands the consequences of policy—not just during elections, but every year. I’m ready to serve with experience, humility, and a steady commitment to our shared values.

Idaho deserves legislators who genuinely care about the people they serve. Every vote I cast will be for the Idahoans I represent. I am ready to serve the people of District 23.
